Full Time CAD MANAGEMENT – The 1st Steps – the 1st 2 Weeks:

In this project, there are 12 Design Disciplines. Each Discipline has a Template for Creating the Model Data. In Addition, the are 9 Sheet Templates.

In each Model Data Disciplinary Template there are Dozens to hundreds of features as Blocks, Annotations etc.

I dedicated the 1st 2 weeks at my desk(s) for Creating many Tools and Tool Palettes for every discipline assuming the CAD END Users will appreciate  moving from plain AutoCAD Commands to Specific TOOLS that will Create Standard Data by a Single Click.

A Tool is a Managed  Command that besides performing the AutoCAD Command, operates in a certain set of predefined options – The purpose of all this is Creating CAD Standard Compliant DATA by Default – In the 1st Place  & a-priori –

These tools, automate the DATA CREATION in means of DATA Properties in the DATA Creation Process,  enabling better DESIGN FOCUS and less CAD FOCUS than usually needed.

Full Time CAD MANAGEMENT – TOOL EXAMPLES

  1. If a Block is inserted  – it should be residing at a specific Layer – even in cases in which the Layer does’t actually exist –  In such cases, the TOOL will be responsible for Creating the LAYER with all its STANDARD Properties, Linetype loading,  (as they were at the time of the tool creation) Etc.
  2. I’ve always maintained that most annotations have already been written in the past. If a Text,  a Dtext or  a Mtext are used as Tools, the feature will be managed (In terms of Layer, Style, Text Height etc.) But the Annotation should be typed (or retyped). If Instead, we create Tools out of Multileaders, the Annotation itself will be placed in the drawing, We’ll get full access to the paragraph, capable of changing the # of Lines or paragraph width, the Line Spacing, and more.
  3. Many Tools Created by Dragging Features  -as Dimensions or Polylines  – will create flyout Tools which will offer multiple feature options.  For Example, in the CASE of a Dimension, the User will get Access to all Dimension Types such as Linear (Rotated Dimensions, Aligned Dimensions), Angular, Radial, etc. In the Case of a Polyline, a flyout will offer Lines & Arcs, Circles & Ellipses, Rays & Construction Lines as well as Splines.
  4. Other Features: not every feature can be dragged into  A TOOL PALETTE (which is where TOOLS live).
    A Rectangle or a Revision Cloud for instance, if dragged will offer a Polyline as a Primary tool Since basically they are both Polylines. That’s why a TOOL CREATION Option called Customize Commands , will give access to the CUI (Customize User Interface), offering all AutoCAD Features to be dragged into a tool and then editing its properties.

I Guess no New-Modern-4G CAD Standard should be lacking the TOOLS and TOOL Palettes.
